Genito Urinary Surgery
Department of Genitourinary Surgery (Urology)
The Dept of Genito Urinary Surgery was started in late 1970’s with a single Asst Prof & two lectures attached to the Dept of General surgery. Later, by 2000, this dept became a independent unit lead by the
Asso Prof. Dr. Mohan P Sam and Asst. Prof. Dr. Nazar M & 2 Provisional Lectures. On 2007, Dr. M Nazar became the HOD, & is still continuing as HOD Urology.
MCh Urology course was started in 2012 with an in take of 2 students per year. Now 12 batches have been completed. Dr. Nazar M took charge as Prof. HOD of the Department in 2016.

Brief Description of the Dept of Urology
OP Days
- The Dept runs OPD on Monday and Wednesday.
- Time: 8:30 Am to 2 Pm
- Average OP Attendence: 150 – 200 / OPD
- Average Admission: 15 – 20 / week

Dept of Urology undertakes all major and minor surgical procedures related to Genito Urinary System.
Minor surgeries include cystoscopies, D.J. stenting RGPs, Urethral dialations circumcision, varicocele and hydrocele surgeries etc.
Major surgeries include all radical surgeries for kidney, bladder and prostate cancers. Stone surgeries including PCNL, RIRS, ECRS etc. are frequently done. We also routinely do reconstructive surgeries like pyloplasty, urethroplasty, re-implantation and urinary diversions.
We also have Laparoscopy and 3D 4K laparoscopy in the Department. We are doing renal transplantations (Live Related) on a regular basis. On an average 1,200 to 1,300 minor cases and 350 to 400 major cases were carried out annually.
We have most modern ESWL machine (Dornier) for non-operative treatment of stone diseases.
Department has more than 50 publications in its credit and many research works are going on.
The department has been shifted recently to the new Super Specialty Block with all most modern amenities and state of the art operating rooms.
